On Saturday, Sept. 26, the varsity girls’ cross country team placed first at The Macnider Invitational, its first invite of the season. The invite was hosted by Schaumburg High School and took place at Hoover Middle School.

Though The Macnider Invitational is an annual event, this year looked slightly different due to COVID-19 safety measures. New Illinois High School Association guidelines restrict the number of student participants, coaches and officials to 50 per wave. While The Macnider Invitational usually garners between 12 and 20 teams, only five were able to attend this year. The invite also incorporated social distancing between teams.

“Morale is good, and the girls are working hard. We’ve already got two dual-wins and one invite win—the season is looking pretty good so far.”

Prior to the invite, the team had already competed against schools inside and outside of District 214 during meets, smaller tournaments occurring on weekdays. Meets follow the same IHSA COVID-19 guidelines as invites.

The team will be competing at regionals on Oct. 24. We wish them the best of luck with the rest of their season!
